Weight Room Introduction

New Athletes

Athletes who have been accepted to Carroll High School and are interested in playing football should make every effort to get involved with the team in the weight room as soon as possible. Our coaching staff, along with the incredible training staff at Power Athlete, will be responsible for teaching new athletes the fundamentals of exercise, and help them begin their journey through sports performance. 

Every athlete was a first-time lifter once. We will always prioritize safety and proper form in our training. Athletes will only increase weight in their lifts if their form allows them to safely do so. 


Off-Season Sport Performance

The purpose of our sport performance program is to prevent injury, increase strength, forge physical and mental toughness, and improve sport-specific skills. 


Off-season weight training is not required in order to play, but athletes who are  committed to our team goals will recognize the weight room as a necessity. Coaches will opt for the bigger, stronger, faster athlete who has chosen hard work during the off-season, over the athlete who chose not to improve. 


Your football team is built December through July, not August through November. Multisport athletes are still strongly encouraged to attend off-season weight training on a modified basis. A minimum of one lift per week is attainable by all multisport athletes.


Weight Room Participation

All athletes will report on time (early!), unless Coach Byrd has authorized an exception in writing via email. Weight room times are found on our team calendar


The weight room uniform is a royal blue shirt, black shorts, and athletic shoes appropriate for lifting. Athletes should bring cleats to every workout, and cold weather clothing if the weather is cool. Athletes must report with a full water bottle that holds at least 32 ounces. No gear from opposing schools should be worn at any time. 


Athletes must be prepared to work hard from start to finish. Everything we do in the weight room, from warm-up to cool-down, has a specific and important purpose. There is no time to waste.
